Hidden Gun Cabinet

Having your guns locked up a critical first step to protecting both children and unfamiliar adults from the dangers of playing with a gun.  Owning a gun cabinet is a nice touch to most home decors and a proud way to display your gun collection.  Unfortunately, it is typical for a wood gun cabinet to have glass front doors.  They are any easy target for any thief and can be opened by simply breaking the glass or using a crow bar to disable the lock.  In fact, I would argue it makes a thief’s job pretty easy as the guns are out in place site.  He just breaks a little piece of glass and they are all his.

The other alternative is to secure your guns in a gun safe.  It is easy to find gun safes for sale online and through dealers.  This is an excellent way to secure your guns against theft and accidents, especially when they are installed in the basement and bolted to the floor.  Unfortunately, a gun safe can be heavy to install  and really is not conducive to showing off your collection.  Do you really want to bring guest down into your basement to see your gun collection?  Also, in a crisis, how quickly could you get to your gun safe and open it?

So what is the compromise?

A hidden gun cabinet is a new piece of furniture that is being sold by a few manufacturers.  It looks like an ordinary book case or curio cabinet, but if you look closer, you will notice that the cabinet is actually deeper than the shelves reveal.  Looking on the side you will notice a small key lock.  Inserting the key you can slide out the back or open 2 doors on the larger units to reveal hidden gun storage for your collection of long guns and pistols  For quick access to your collection for an emergency or just to show them off, simply unlock the door and swing it open.

What an excellent way to protect (and hide) your guns, but be able to easily show them off in the comfort of your family room or den.  Plus, since they are your living area and not in the basement, you should be able to get to them quicker in a crisis.  And best of all, most thieves would not ever think this piece of furniture was a gun cabinet and simply pass it by.  Plus this hidden gun storage cabinet looks fantastic in any room.
